One Guy Is Dead Wrong About Youth Sports and Seattle Is NOT Having It!

Seriously, you guys. I just saw something online that made my blood boil, and if you’ve ever had a kid, coached a team, or just remember being a kid yourself, you’re gonna feel the exact same way. Some absolute jabroni out there is trying to argue that youth sports games shouldn't be played in the morning. Like, what?! The internet, bless its heart, absolutely tore him apart, and frankly, I'm here to pile on. This "dumb take" needs to be called out for what it is: pure, unadulterated nonsense.

The Unmatched Magic of Morning Games

Maybe it’s the Memorial Day weekend vibe coming up, or seeing all those graduations and old TV show anniversaries online, but summer always hits different, right? It makes you nostalgic. But nothing, and I mean NOTHING, beats the pure magic of youth sports mornings with your parents. I remember every single detail. That sleepy wake up, the light flipping on, then that instant jolt of energy when your folks say "get dressed... big game today!" Suddenly you’re hyped, thinking you could score 40, run for five touchdowns, or hit for the cycle. Nothing was more fun than sports as a kid. Yeah, I was lucky enough to play two varsity sports in high school, even winning a city and Catholic state title, and then four years of D3 college ball. But the older you get, the more the requirements rise: team lifts, those "optional but not really" offseason workouts, camp, film, practices. You still love it, but it’s not that pure, carefree joy of being 7-13, rolling with your parents. Think about the breakfast before, or that post-game stop to break down the win. The pump-up tunes on the radio, or even just your dad still in control of the static-filled oldies. A friend of mine recently spoke about how much he cherished those sounds, and man, he’s spot on.

Why Those Memories Stick Forever

Think about it: in the summertime for baseball or hoops, the sun isn't absolutely smoking hot yet. It’s kind of beautiful, leaving the house with that hint of a breeze. In the fall for football, there’s that perfect mix of the last gasps of summer in September with a refreshing breeze, or those colder morning jolts that make you pump yourself up to tough it out. It was a magical mix. Starting your day by running around, competing, doing what you loved, and still having the ENTIRE day in front of you? That's something I wish I could have back. All these years later, the scores fade, the plays you made get fuzzy. But then you drive past a field of kids playing, and BAM, it all comes back. You remember those 8 AM doubleheaders at Mid Island, or an early kickoff at Miller Field for Staten Island Pee Wee. You remember the pop of the bat in your 8-year-old hands stretching a double, dribbling over a crack on the way to a layup, or catching a pass out in the flats and turning upfield. All the smiles, all the fun. And then, as you get older, you realize the sacrifices your parents made to do all that. How hard it was, and how appreciative you are for it. So yeah, some idiot thinks he doesn’t want to drive his kids early. He’s either selfish or just plain dumb, and honestly, I feel worse for his kids, or anyone who agrees with that idiotic take. They're missing out on sports in its purest form, at the best time of day, and most importantly, with the people you love and who love you the most. Glad the internet had our back on this one. Let's make sure that tweeter hears it loud and clear, because as Rico Bosco said on May 17, 2026, it’s all about those two words: "PLAY BALL!"
