One Month In and the National League Is Eating Everyone's Lunch

A month into the 2026 season and the power rankings are starting to tell a wild story. The top team has stayed locked in at number one, which is solid. But everything below that? Total chaos, especially in the National League.

The Mets are the headline act in this collapse tour. New York just snapped a 12-game losing streak on Wednesday night, but that's about all the good news they're getting. That brutal skid has tanked them all the way to number 27 on our Week 4 list. They've dropped into the basement of the standings, and honestly, it's been rough to watch.

The National League's Top Heavy Talent

Here's what's wild: the National League is absolutely stacked at the top. The scoreboard doesn't lie. Arizona is swinging bats with serious pop. Chicago and Los Angeles are holding their own. And the Rockies just swept the Mets in a series that included a 3-0 shutout in the nightcap that dealt New York their 15th loss in 17 games. That's not a slump, that's a freefall.

The Rest of Baseball Is Struggling

It's not just New York falling apart. The Phillies are sporting the worst run differential in all of Major League Baseball. The Astros and Red Sox are sitting at the bottom of their divisions. The Mariners picked up a 3-2 win over St. Louis on the road, which is a solid W, but there's a lot of inconsistency across the league right now.

One month down and the story is clear: the top teams are staying the course, but everyone else is fighting just to stay afloat. If you're a Seattle fan, you've got to keep an eye on how the M's respond in the next stretch of games. The National League might be hogging the headlines, but the American League has plenty to prove.
