Paolo Banchero Watched Beckham Black Dominate, And Duke Has a Fight on Their Hands
Alright, Emerald City, listen up! You know how we always talk about game-changers, right? Well, Jon Scheyer at Duke is just out here *collecting* five-star talent like it's his job. He's been on an absolute tear, but there's a new 2027 prospect making waves, Beckham Black. Even with our guy Paolo Banchero checking him out, Scheyer might have to scrap for this one against a familiar foe. Get ready, because this kid is electric, and the battle lines are already forming!
Scheyer's Recruiting Machine is Rolling
Seriously, you gotta hand it to Jon Scheyer. This dude is arguably the best recruiter in the entire country right now. The Blue Devils just locked up the #1 ranked high school recruiting class for 2026, marking the *third straight year* they've pulled off that feat. That 2026 class is stacked, too, headlined by five-star studs like Cameron Williams, Deron Rippey Jr., Bryson Howard, and Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje. When you're bringing in that kind of talent year after year, it's clear they're building something special.

Beckham Black: The Next Big Thing
But as good as that 2026 haul is, the buzz is already shifting to the 2027 class. It's heating up, with elite prospects at the top. Duke hasn't fully dived in yet, but they've been in contact with a select few, and one name keeps popping up: five-star guard Beckham Black. Duke offered Black back in May. He's one of only two 2027 prospects they've made an offer to so far, the other being 4-star big man Kager Knueppel. Black is no joke, ranked as the No. 4 overall player and the No. 1 point guard in the entire 2027 class by 247Sports. This 6'3", 180-pound backcourt force from Southeastern Prep in Florida went off at Session 2 of the NIKE EYBL circuit. Scheyer's crew was there, and Black absolutely dropped 28 points, eight assists, three rebounds, and two steals! And guess who else was watching? Our guy, former Dukie Paolo Banchero! Paolo is teammates with Beckham's older brother, Anthony Black, on the Orlando Magic. The connections are real, and Black is a serious talent.
A Rivalry Rekindled For a Five-Star
Black has been a steady riser in the 2027 class, and his offer sheet is already insane: Michigan, Kansas, Arkansas, Texas, USC, Kentucky, and yep, North Carolina, among others. Nobody wants to go toe-to-toe with Scheyer in a recruiting battle, the guy's a beast. But with UNC also in the mix for Black, there's a legitimate chance we're about to see the greatest rivalry in college hoops spill over into a full-blown recruiting war for this five-star guard. This one could be epic.
So, what's the deal with this 2027 class? Keep your eyes glued to Beckham Black. Duke wants him, UNC wants him, and everyone knows what happens when those two go head-to-head. Will Scheyer continue his dominance, or will the Tar Heels pull off a major upset for one of the top talents in the country? This is gonna be a heavyweight fight!
