Parker Meadows Carted Off After Brutal Outfield Collision, Out With Broken Arm and Concussion
The Detroit Tigers got brutal news on Thursday night when center fielder Parker Meadows took a nasty collision with teammate Riley Greene in the outfield and ended up on the injured list. Both players were tracking a shallow fly ball to left center off Minnesota's Josh Bell when they crashed hard into each other. Greene made the catch, but Meadows paid the price, getting carted off the field after what looked like a really bad situation.
The Hit That Cost Him
It happened during Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Twins, and it was the kind of moment that makes you hold your breath. Meadows tried to slow up before the contact, but it wasn't enough to avoid the collision. He stayed down on the turf with blood on his face. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said after the game that Meadows bit the inside of his cheek during the crash hard enough to need five stitches. That's the least of his problems though.

The Tigers placed Meadows on the 10-day injured list with a broken arm and a concussion. The fracture is on the radius bone in his left arm, and the team isn't sure yet whether he'll need surgery to fix it. That's a lot of uncertainty for a guy who was seeing regular action early in the season. Meadows, 26, was a second-round draft pick by Detroit back in 2018 and made his big league debut in 2023. This year he'd started 11 of the Tigers' first 13 games, batting .250 with two extra-base hits.
"Tough blow for him, tough blow for us," Hinch said Friday, and he wasn't wrong. The Tigers are going to have to figure out their outfield depth while Meadows recovers from what could be a lengthy injury.
