Rockets Refuse to Die, Force Game 6 With 99-93 Gut-Punch Over Lakers

The Houston Rockets just wouldn't go away. Down 3-2 in the Western Conference first-round series, they walked into the Lakers' house Wednesday night and stole a 99-93 victory that sends this thing back to Houston for Game 6 on Friday with their season still breathing.

Smith Jr. Leads the Charge

Jabari Smith Jr. carried the load when it mattered most, dropping 22 points to lead the Rockets' escape act. Tari Eason chipped in 18 points in what turned into a gutty, defensive-minded performance from a fifth-seeded team that simply refused to pack it in. Alperen Sengun was the quiet orchestrator with 14 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists, doing all the little things that keep a team alive.

Durant Still Missing, Rockets Still Fighting

Here's what makes this even more impressive: Houston pulled this off without Kevin Durant in the lineup. Their top scorer has missed four of the five games in this series because of injuries and sat out Game 5 as well. The Rockets have now won two straight without him, which tells you everything about the depth and toughness this team found when its back was completely against the wall.

Austin Reaves' return to the Lakers lineup didn't change the outcome. Houston's defense was suffocating when it had to be, and the Rockets showed they're not ready to go home just yet.

Back to Houston

Game 6 tips off Friday night in Houston. The series heads back to the Rockets' house with their season on life support and everything still possible. This is exactly the kind of momentum shift a team needs when they're facing elimination.
