Ryan Winterton Back on the Ice: Kraken Rookie Returns to Climate Pledge Arena After Bereavement Leave

The Kraken had a moment of connection Thursday morning that meant everything. Ryan Winterton dropped to one knee at center ice after the pregame skate, and his teammates lined the center circle at Climate Pledge Arena, tapping their sticks in support. For a rookie who has been through an abnormal stretch, that simple gesture probably felt like exactly what he needed right now.

Back Where He Belongs

Winterton took bereavement leave, stepping away from the team during a difficult time off the ice. That kind of absence hits hard, especially for a young player trying to find his footing in the NHL. But Thursday's skate showed the Kraken organization and his teammates have his back. The stick taps from his linemates and defensemen circling center ice sent a clear message: we're here for you, we're glad you're back.

A Tough Road, Now Moving Forward

It's not easy to balance personal tragedy with the demands of professional hockey. The physical and mental toll of stepping away, then returning to the grind, is real. But Winterton showed up, got back on the ice with the group, and started finding his rhythm again at Climate Pledge Arena. For a Kraken team fighting through the season, having your center back in the lineup matters. Whether it's this game or the next one, Winterton is ready to contribute again.

The Kraken have shown they understand what matters most. This isn't just about winning games, it's about taking care of your people. Winterton's return to the ice is the start of getting back to normal for him, and that's something worth celebrating.
