After seeing the lineup lose Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo this offseason, the Mets made their first addition to the offense, signing Jorge Polanco to a two-year deal worth $40 million, The Post confirmed.
The 32-year-old Polanco spent the previous two seasons with the Seattle Mariners and last year had 26 homers, an OPS of .821 and a career-high OPS-plus of 134.
The Mariners had Polanco likely 2ND on their priority list. Josh Naylor was 1st, and they got that deal done. Polanco is someone they wanted to retain, but this number of $20 million a year was just too high.
Jorge Polanco and the New York Mets are in agreement on a two-year, $40 million contract.

Time for the Mariners to make some moves. Bummed about this, but understanding not doing it for $20M a year. pic.twitter.com/QN7K9NuWG5
