It's been a beautiful week to be a Seattle Mariners fan. The Mariners won the America League West for the first time in 2024 years, since 2001. It's been a long time coming and something that felt like it took forever (which it did). Finally, big trade deadline moves, and getting hot at the right time WORKED.
It got even better when the Mariners secured the #2 seed in the American League. The Mariners now get to SKIP the wildcard round and enjoy a bye week. They won't begin postseason play until Saturday October 4th. Regardless of who they play, Cleveland Guardians or the Detroit Tigers, the Mariners will get home-field advantage in that ALDS series.
If they win that series, they will get home field against the rest of the playoff competition OTHER THAN the Toronto Blue Jays OR New York Yankees, whoever wins the division on the final day of the season will get the #1 seed.
Six teams in the playoffs Mariners will have home-field advantage over 4/5 of the remaining teams. This feels special and meaningful.
