Seattle Mariners Star Pitcher Luis Castillo Placed On 15-Day Injured List...

Unfortunately for the Seattle Mariners, they've had a long stretch of a fully healthy rotation, but that has come to an end. The Mariners five starting pitchers have been all healthy for the last few months after Bryan Woo dealt with some injuries early in the year. Now, there is a tough blow to the rotation in the middle a playoff race.

The Seattle Mariners placed veteran starting pitcher Luis Castillo on the injured list on Tuesday, just two days after he departed his Sunday start against the St. Louis Cardinals with what the team later termed a left hamstring strain.

The Mariners have since categorized the strain as being of the "Grade 2" variety. Castillo has received a PRP injection and is hopeful that he'll be able to return after the mandatory 15-day inactive period is over.

This season, the 31-year-old Castillo has pitched to a 3.64 ERA over 30 starts.

This is not the time for something like this to happen to the Mariners. They are currently 3-games back of the final Wild Card spot, and 4.5-games back of the Houston Astros for the top spot in the AL West. There are only 18 games left this season, so if the Mariners are not in contention in 2 weeks, we might not see Luis Castillo again this season. Even in a best-case scenario, Castillo will only be able to rejoin the Mariners for one or maybe two starts before the end of the regular season.

The Mariners have a chance to make a comeback into the playoffs, but it's going to require a very impressive stretch of baseball, and getting help from some new starting pitching that will replace Luis Castillo for 2-3 starts.
