The Seattle Seahawks have created roughly $9.5 million more in cap space by restructing wdie receiver DK Metcalf's contract. The news was first reported by ESPN's Field Yates.
It's widely known that the Seahawks have one of the best front offices in the entire NFL, with John Schneider running the show. They always seems to do things with the purpose of another move happening somewhere in the near future.
Here, the thought is, either the Seahawks plan to extend DK Metcalf to a longer-term contract, or they are looking for immediately offensive-line help and needed to find some extra money to do so.

I have no idea if it means anything or not. But, I do hope this means 1 of 2 things.
1. DK Metcalf extension coming soon?
2. Offensive line help coming soon?
In 2022, DK Metcalf signed a three-year deal worth $72 million. According to Spotrac, the restructured contract converts $11.875 million of salary into a signing bonus, while adding three extra voided years to the contract.
Void years, which are becoming a more commonly used tactic specifically for salary cap manipulation, essentially allows Seattle to move money due to Metcalf to years following the final year of his deal when he will be a free agent.
We can only wait and see what the purpose of this move is, but at the end of the day it is always good to have a star player move around their contract to help the team, even if it is in their benefit for the future.
