Seattle Seahawks fans have been waiting the last year and half to finally get a really special performance from Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Sunday, against the Rams, it finally happened.
Of course, it was expected even more the last two weeks with DK Metcalf, the Seahawks number one receiver, out for the second straight week. It was good to see Smith-Njigba take advantage of the opportunity.
Now, let's keep it real for a second, I think there was too much concern and hate towards JSN. He's a young developing WR with a lot of talent on the team. Kenneth Walker, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Noah Fant, and many more pieces surround this Seahawks offense, it's not easy to get that many targets week-to-week. He's been good for a young receiver, but everyone was waiting for a big time game.
On Sundays loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Jaxon Smith-Njigba had 7 catches for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns. The BEST PFF grade on the Seahawks Sunday, the 2nd best PFF grade in the NFL for WRs Week 9:
- Zay Flowers: 94.5
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba: 92.5
- Garrett Wilson: 91.1
- Drake London: 90.5
- Demarcus Robinson: 86.5
JSN’s 180-yard, two-score affair was easily the biggest game of his NFL career, but it could have been much bigger. Arguably his two most impressive plays — a 40-yard reception and a 38-yard reception — were called back. He was also open deep down the sidelines for what might have been an 83-yard TD. Geno Smith overthrew that pass, but it helps explain how Smith-Njigba got to 225 air yards.
JSN finally had his Seahawks breakout game:

There was an actual chance that without penalties we saw a game where he ended up with 200+ yards and 3 touchdowns on the day, we didn't get it, but overall, it was still an extremely successful day.
