Spencer Arrighetti Struck Out 10 and the Astros Just Rolled Past Colorado

While the M's were getting shut down in San Diego, there was some serious pitching dominance happening out in Houston. Spencer Arrighetti took the mound for the Astros against the Rockies and absolutely dealt, fanning 10 batters en route to an Astros victory. That's the kind of dominant outing that reminds you why pitching depth matters in April when teams are still figuring out who they are.

Arrighetti Put on a Clinic

Ten strikeouts. That's not just solid. That's the kind of performance that gets noticed around the league. Arrighetti was sharp, in control, and the Astros' lineup backed him up with enough run support to get the W. Early season stuff like this tells you everything about whether a team's rotation can actually hold up when it counts, and Houston is showing they've got some serious firepower on the mound.

Meanwhile in San Diego

The Mariners headed into town and came away empty, dropping the game 4-1 to the Padres. One run just wasn't going to cut it against San Diego on this night. Padres catcher Freddy Fermin took a foul ball and had to leave the game, but it didn't slow down San Diego's offense. The M's will need to regroup quick and figure out how to manufacture more runs if they're going to compete in these early April matchups.

The Bigger Picture

This is baseball in mid-April: some teams are clicking on all cylinders like Houston did against Colorado, while others are still searching for their rhythm. The Mariners are one loss into what's shaping up to be a grinding month. Games at T-Mobile Park will be crucial as we move forward.
