Steelers Grabbed Iheanachor at 21st Overall and Pittsburgh's O-Line Just Got a Lot Harder to Defend

The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted the 2026 NFL Draft in their own backyard on April 23, and they used their first round pick to address the offensive line. Max Iheanachor, an offensive tackle from Arizona State, heard his name called as the 21st overall selection, giving the Steelers a fresh piece to build around up front.

Pittsburgh Had the Spotlight and Made It Count

When you host the draft in your own city, there's pressure to deliver. The Steelers didn't overthink it. Iheanachor, a tackle prospect from Arizona State, was the pick. The event brought the 2026 NFL Draft to Pittsburgh with Round 1 coverage kicking off Thursday, April 23 from 8 to 11 p.m. ET on ABC, ESPN, and NFL Network. The entire draft stretched across three days, with Rounds 2 and 3 on Friday night and Rounds 4 through 7 on Saturday.

Who is Iheanachor?

The tape spoke for itself. Highlights from Iheanachor's Arizona State days showed a prospect ready to step in and compete at the pro level. The Steelers had the platform, the moment, and the need on the offensive line. They connected all three dots with this selection.

The 2026 draft class was stacked with talent, and Pittsburgh made sure to be part of the conversation from the opening round. With Iheanachor now in the fold, the Steelers are banking on having addressed a critical weakness up front. That offensive line is going to look very different in 2026.
