Worst Trade Of Every MLB Team (And Mariners)
Every MLB team has a trade that they regret making. Whether trading for a young prospect or trading a player before the blew up, every team has their own mistake. Here are the worst trades for every team in MLB history including the Seattle Mariners.
Atlanta Braves
Chris Johnson hit .321 with, 12 HR and 68 RBI. The very next season his average dropped nearly .100 points lower.
Miami Marlins
Kevin Millar batted .314 with 20 HR and 85 RBI with the Marlins in 2001. That was arguably his best season.
New York Mets
R.A. Dickey in 2012 went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA, the knuckle baller won the Cy Young. That was his only real dominant season.
Philadelphia Phillies
In 1997 Kevin Sefcik hit .341 for the Phillies. He never hit above .300 again.
Washington Nationals
Esteban Loaiza in 2005 had a solid 12-10 season with a 3.77 ERA for the Nationals. He signed elsewhere after and never matched that production.
Chicago Cubs
In 2015 Jake Arrieta went 22-6 with a 1.77 ERA and won the Cy Young award for the Cubs. He had some good seasons again but never quite reached that dominance again.
Cincinnati Reds
Dann Graves in 2002 had 41 saves for the Reds. He switched to a starting role and struggled.
Milwaukee Brewers
In 1992 Pat Listach won the rookie of the year batting .290 with 54 stolen bases. Injuries derailed his career.
Pittsburgh Pirates
In 1999 Brian Giles batted .315 with 39 HRs. He regressed right after.
St. Louis Cardinals
Rick Ankiel got the yips. He was a good young pitcher who never recovered.
Arizona Diamondbacks
Brandon Webb went 16-8 with a 3.10 ERA and won a Cy Young award. Injuries quickly derailed his career.

Vinny Castilla in 1998 batted .319 with 46 HR and 121 RBI. He never lived to those numbers again.

For one year Adrian Beltre had a huge year for the Dodgers. In 2004 he batted .334 with 48 HR and 121 RBI. He then became a Mariner and had a good rest of his career.

Ken Caminiti in 1996 batted .326 with 40 HR and 130 RBI and won the NL MVP. His only true MVP season.

In 1989 Dave Dravecky had a 2.93 ERA for the Giants. Sadly, he got cancer and ended his career.

Brady Anderson hit .297 with 50 HRs in 1996. He never hit more than 24 in a season again.

In 1989 Nick Esasky hit .277 with 30 HR and 108 RBI. He developed vertigo shortly after and that ended his career.

In 2005 Aaron Small went 10-0 with a 3.20 ERA. He never had a season close to that one great season.

Carlos Pena in 2007 hit .282 with 46 HR with 121 RBI. He had some decent seasons after but never close to that one.

Juan Guzman in 1996 had a 2.93 ERA. He looked like a Cy Young contender. But he struggled after.

In 2000 Herbert Perry hit .308 with 12 HR and 61 RBI. He never reached that production again.
Cleveland Guardians
Jody Gerut in 2003 he hit .279 with 22 HR and 75 RBI. After that good rookie season injuries derailed his career.
Detroit Tigers
In 2006 Chris Shelton hit .299 16 HR in 40 games. He completely fell off after that blazing start.
Kansas City Royals
In 1994 Bob Hamelin won the rookie of the year batting .282 with 24 HR. He never got close to that again.
Minnesota Twins
In 1992 Shane Mack hit .315 with 16 HR and 12 SB. He never put up close to those numbers.
Houston Astros
In 2000 Richard Hidalgo hit .314 with 44 HR and 122 RBIs. Never hit more than 28 HRs again.

In 2012 Mark Trumbo hit .268 with 32 HR and 95 RBIs and made the all-star team. He declined the very next season.

In 2009 for our Seattle Mariners Franklin Gutierrez hit .283 with 18 HR and 16 SB with some ELITE defense. However, that was his best season as injuries took a toll on his career.

In 1974 Jeff Burroughs hit .301 with 25 HR with 118 RBIs and won the MVP. He was solid after but never got close to MVP caliber again.
