The Seattle Mariners have fired their manager Scott Servais after a abysmal 1-8 road trip. The Mariners are expected to appoint former Mariners catcher Dan Wilson as their manager for the rest of the season.

GeorgeONTap's Take:
At the end of the day this came expected. A team that had 10 game lead in the AL West in June is now at .500 and 4.5 games back from the division and 7 back of the Wild Card. The writing was simply on the wall. Now are there bigger problems with the Mariners than the manager? Absolutely. This is a systematic problem that can't be solved over night. All the good will of our playoff run a few years back is now gone and that's sad to see. Usually the saying goes you take one step back to take two steps forward.
The Mariners, they did the opposite. We took a step forward and now it feels like we have taken 5 steps back. It might be time to clean house and it is time for us as fans to step up and be more vocal. This organization needs to be clean. The ownership group needs pressure to either step up or sell the team plain and simple. We are the only team to never make the World Series and as a Mariners fan I am tired of it. Scott Servais might have been a good guy, but his time needed to come to an end and today was that day.
I get a haircut and Scott Servais gets fired in the middle of it. I feel like there’s a deeper meaning behind this somewhere. But good for the Mariners. Maybe Dan Wilson turns this around for us

SamiONTap's Take:
Should this all fall on the the manager, Scott Servais? Not really. Yet, it was time to him to go. After that 1-8 road trip, there was no excuse for Scott to be back in the building. Still, this falls on ownership. I truly believe Jerry Dipoto would be able to do his job 10X better if he was able to get some money to make the moves he actually wanted to make. It just never happens with the Mariners.
We likely won't get new ownership soon, but that is the best thing to hop for as a fan of the Seattle Mariners. Only time will tell. For now, I hope the players all take it upon themselves to make a change, get some fire in them, and go win some baseball games. That is the reason behind firing Servais, to see if the players can get a spark.
