The Seattle Mariners Keep Themselves Alive: 2 Games Back of the Wild Card

The Seattle Mariners have had plenty of ups-and-downs this season, especially when it comes to their playoff chances. Really rough statistic incoming: The Seattle Mariners were the fastest team to ever blow a 10-game lead in a division. 

Despite losing the division in a quick manner, the Seattle Mariners have found themselves in and out of the playoff race multiple times. The AL West has had a down year, even with the Houston Astros playing good as of late, and the AL Wild Card third spot has been interchanging between a lot of teams. 

Currently the Mariners still sit 4.5 games back of the AL West, but they have three of their last nine games against the Astros and can make up some ground, if they win all three games. 

The Mariners are also 2 games back of the AL Wild Card, but it's really 3 games back, given the fact that they lost their tiebreaker with the two teams ahead of them, the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins. 

What are the Mariners playoff chances? 5.3% chance of making the playoffs according to ESPN. They also have a 5.6% chance according to FanGraphs playoff predictor. 

It might be hard to believe right now, but there is still a chance. The Mariners likely will need to go anywhere from 7-2 to 9-0 in their final three series' to have a chance to make the playoffs, regardless of how. It could be by winning the AL West (less likely), or by sneaking into the final AL Wild Card playoff spot.
