The Washington Huskies Cost Themselves The Apple Cup

The Washington Huskies lost to the Washington State Cougars 24-19 in the 116th edition of the Apple Cup. For the first time ever the game was played in September and was played at Lumen Field. It was disappointing day all over the field for the Huskies.

The Huskies simply had many opportunities to win this game. But 16 penalties for a total of 135 yards could be the biggest reason the Huskies lost the football game. The team simply had no discipline and cost themselves over and over again. But to make matters worse, the Huskies had an opportunity to win the game. 4th and goal on the two-yard line, the Dawgs wasted a timeout and then followed it with one of the worst play calls I could imagine. A run-option, to the short side of the field. It was stuffed. Then, after that, the Huskies still had a chance to get the ball back, but instead, a couple dumb penalties cost us a chance to get the ball back.

It was an alarming day overall, and it's too early to say what the Jedd Fisch era will be, but, hopefully, he can get this team some discipline, because if we play that type of football in the Big 10, we will be in trouble.
