The Worst NFL Coaches This Century

Every NFL team has hired a coach that has turned out to be a clunker. Here is every NFL team's worst NFL coach they had since the year 2000.
Buffalo Bills - Greg Williams (2001-2003)

Gregg Williams went just 17-31 as the head coach of the Bills over three losing seasons. The Bills never made the playoffs under him.
Miami Dolphins - Cam Cameron (2007)

In one season as head coach he was a disaster. Miami went 1-15. And had one win that came in overtime in week 15.
New England Patriots - Jerod Mayo (2024)

Well for the Patriots this is tough because they had only two head coaches in the 2000s. Jerod Mayo went 1 and done replacing Bill Belichick.
New York Jets- Adam Gase (2019-2020)

Gase had a two year reign in New York. He went 9-23 in two seasons. He was dysfunctional and had some weird decisions. In 2020 they started off 0-13.
Pittsburgh Steelers- Mike Tomlin (2007-Present)

Not quite fair here. They have had only two head coaches in the 2000s. Mike Tomlin and Bill Cowher. Both have won Super Bowls and were wildly successful.
Baltimore Ravens-Brian Billick (1999-2007)

Just like their division rival the Steelers they have had amazing coaches. Only him and John Harbaugh. We rank Harbaugh slightly higher.
Cleveland Browns- Hue Jackson (2016-2018)

Jackon's time in Cleveland was historically bad. He went 3-36-1 including a 1-15 season following by an 0-16. A 1-131 stretch over 2 years.
Cincinnati Bengals- Dick LeBeau (2000-2002)

He was an amazing defensive coordinator but did not shine as a head coach. He went 12-33 in two seasons for the Bengals.
Indianapolis Colts- Jeff Saturday (2022, interim)

It was an unorthodox experiment. The Colts brought in a former player midway through the season who was working at ESPN. He went 1-7 overall.
Jacksonville Jaguars- Urban Meyer (2021)

Meyers was an amazing college coach. But his time in Jacksonville was laughable. They went 2-11 and he was fired after a strong of scandals.
Tennessee Titans- Ken Whisenhunt (2014-2015)

His tenure with the Titans was extra poor. He was fired halfway through his second season after going 3-20 overall in under 2 seasons.
Houston Texans- Lovie Smith (2022)

The Texans have had some rough coaches over the years. But Lovie Smith's season stands out. The team went 3-13-1 and was fired after just one season. But what was notable was they wont the last week of the season which cost them the number 1 pick.
Kansas City Chiefs- Romeo Crennel (2011-2012)

Crennel's time in KC was short and bad. He was interim coach in 2011 and then got the full time job in 2012. He went 2-14 and got fired.
Las Vegas Raiders - Dennis Allen (2012-2014)

He was the definition of the struggles of the Raiders in the early 2010s. In just over to seasons he went 8-28 and was fired four games into year 3.
Denver Broncos- Nathaniel Hackett (2022)

Hackett had a brief sting with the Broncos and was horrible. He was fired 15 games into his first season with just a 4-11 record. He was known for horrible clock management and decisions.
Los Angeles Chargers- Mike Riley (1999-2001)

Riley's tenure encapsulated the Chargers bad early 2000s. He went a combined 6-26 in his two seasons including 1-15 record in 2000.
Dallas Cowboys- Dave Campo (2000-2002)

He became the first and only Cowboys head coach to ever post a losing record with the team. In three seasons he went 5-11 in each and every season.
New York Giants- Joe Judge (2020-2021)

Judge two year spell was poor in performance and he was abrasive. They piled a 10-23 record in this time in charge.
Philadelphia Eagles- Chip Kelly (2013-2015)

He started with a bang. Going 10-6 in his first two seasons. But a disaster of 2015 led to a a firing with a game left in that season.
Washington Redskins/Commanders- Steve Spurrier (2002-2003)

He was lured from college as a big name. He failed big time. He went 12-20 and resigned with three years left on his deal.
Green Bay Packers - Mike Sherman (2000-2005)

Another team that has had good coaching. Sherman was not a disaster by any means but the other two head coaches (McCarthy and LaFleur) were better.
Chicago Bears- Marc Trestman (2013-2014)

Trestman had a 2 year tenure that was a rollercoaster and disaster. The first season he went 8-8 but it fell apart in year two and was fired.
Minnesota Vikings- Leslie Frazier (2011-2013)

Frazier took over as a intern coach then was given the full time job. He finished with a 21-32-1 record.
Detroit Lions- Rod Marinelli (2006-2008)

Marinelli tenure was historically low. He went winless in 2008 because the first coach to go 0-16 in NFL history.
New Orleans Saints- Dennis Allen (2022-2023)

Hard to fill the shoes of Sean Payton. He makes this list twice once with the Raiders and once with the Saints.
Atlanta Falcons- Bobby Petrino (2007)

This might be the shortest on the list. He went 3-10 before quitting on the team mid-season.
Carolina Panthers - George Seifert (1999-2001)

He was a two time champion with the 49ers. But he was bad in Carolina. In his final season he went 1-15.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Greg Schiano (2012-2013)

His tenure was marked by turmoil and a heavy hand. He went 11-21 and wore out his welcome. He was built more for college.
San Francisco 49ers- Mike Singletary (2008-2010)

The 49ers have had some good coaches and some disasters. He went 18-22 in his time with the 49ers and rubbed players the wrong way.
Seattle Seahawks- Jim Mora Jr. (2009)

The Seahawks have had great coaches in the 2000s. Except one. Local man Jim Mora Jr. He served one very forgettable season with the Seahawks and went 5-11. The first Seahawks coach to be fired after one season.
Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams- Steve Spagnuolo (2009-2011)

He had a great reputation for his defense. He was a bad head coach. But later found success again as a defensive coordinator.
Dave McGinnis (2002-2003)

The Cardinals have had a few clunkers. But McGinnis wins. He went 17-40 in three plus seasons as the Cardinals head coach.
