The Worst NFL QBs Of The 1990s
NFL team's dream of having a great QB and it can frustrate a fan base. But sometimes your QB just plain and simple doesn't cut.. This is every NFL team's WORST QB In the 90s. Including the Seattle Seahawks.
Arizona Cardinals- Stoney Case (1995-1998)
Stoney Case helped solidify the Arizona Cardinals 1990s woes at QB. He was horrible in his starts. He completed under 50% of his passes and had a crazy 15 INTs to 4 TD ratio.
Atlanta Falcons- Jeff George (1994-1996)
The Falcons traded for the number 1 pick in Jeff George and were hoping his cannon arm would finally reach the potential it had. He had some decent yardage but his attitude overshadowed everything. He went 16-19 as a starter.
Baltimore Ravens- Scott Mitchell (1999)
He arrived in 1999 and was expected to help stabilize the Ravens offense. But he flopped. He never threw a TD as a starter and was benched after two games.
Buffalo Bills- Alex Van Pelt (1995-2003)
Van Pelt spent most of his career as a backup. But he was pushed into the starter role. In 1997 as a starter he threw more TDs than INTs.
Carolina Panthers- Frank Reich (1995)
The first ever starting QB for the Panthers? Well it was Frank Reich. He went 0-3 and had 8 INTs to only two TDs. He struggled to generate any offense.
Chicago Bears- Rick Mirer (1997)
The Bears traded for the former 2nd pick overall from the Seahawks. He started three games in 1997 and threw 0 TDs to 6 INTs. And he barely completed 50% of his passes.
Cincinnati Bengals- David Klinger (1992-1995)
Klinger was a highly touted first round pick in 1992. He was drafted 6th overall. He was a notorious bust. He went 4-20 as a starter and threw 16 TDs to 22 INTs.
Cleveland Browns- Tim Couch (1999)
Browns made Couch the number 1 overall pick in 1999. It was an impossible situation. He went 2-12 as a starter as a rookie and was sacked a league high 56 times.
Dallas Cowboys- Babe Laufenberg (1990)
The Cowboys had Troy Aikman in the 90s. They were blessed. But Laufenberg started two games and completed just 35.8% of his passes with 1 TD to 6 INTs.
Denver Broncos- Tommy Maddox (1992-1993)
Dan Reeves used a first round pick on Maddox while John Elway was just 32. In two seasons, he started four games and threw 5 TDs to 9 Interceptions.
Detroit Lions- Scott Mitchell (1994-1998)
The Lions paid some big money to make Scott Mitchell their franchise QB. He had a great supporting cast but never really made a huge impact. He underperformed giving his contract his received.
Green Bay Packers- Doug Pederson (1995-1998)
It's hard to find a bad 90s Packers QB. Well, that's because Brett Favre never missed a start. We turn to Doug Pederson who only completed 55% of his passes when he did step in for the Packers.
Houston Oilers (Titans)- Cody Carlson (1992-1994)
He was Warren Moon's backup for years. Then he got a chance at the starting job and flopped big time. He went 1-4 and had a 44.7% completion percentage.
Indianapolis Colts- Jeff George (1990-1993)
He was a hometown hero and the number 1 overall pick. He struggled big time. He went 14-35 as the Colts starter.
Jacksonville Jaguars- Steve Beuerlein (1995)
He was the first starting QB for the Jaguars. Then he was benched at halftime of his first start. He completed just 40% of his passes in his time with the Jaguars.
Kansas City Chiefs- Elvis Grbac (1997-2000)
Chiefs fans still cringe over the Grbac era. He threw a ton of INTs and as known for his up and down play during his time in Kansas City.
Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams - Tony Banks (1996-1998)
He was a second round pick and was tasked with leading the Rams. He earned the nickname "turnover Tony".
Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders- Todd Marinovich
He was a cautionary tale of hype gone wrong. He was groomed to be a QB from birth. He started 8 games and then his career was gone due to off-field issues.
Miami Dolphins- Craig Erickson (1998)
The Dolphins avoided bad QB play in the 90s thanks to Dan Marino. However, Erickson did start a few games due to injury. He went 0-2 as a starter.
Minnesota Vikings- Sean Salisbury (1992-1994)
The Vikings did have some decent QBs in the 90s. Salisbury wasn't one of the. He ended up throwing more INTs than TDs starting Dennis Green's Vikings.
New England Patriots - Tommy Hodson (1990-1992)
The Patriots were dreadful in the early 90s. Hodson was a third round pick and started 6 games and went 1-5 with more INTs than TDs.
New Orleans Saints- Mike Buck (1996-1997)
The Saints put out a ton of QBs in the 90s. Mike Buck was the worst. He started 7 games and had a passer rating of 58.6.
New York Giants- Dave Brown (1992-1997)
They used a first round supplemental pick. He finished his tenure with the Giants going 23-30.
New York Jets- Browning Nagle (1992)
The Jets moved on from Ken O'Brien and the 2nd round pick Browning Nagle came in. He started 14 games and went 3-10.
Philadelphia Eagles- Bobby Hoying (1997-1998)
He had a few great games and teased Eagle fans. Then he turned into a starter in 1998 and failed to throw a single TD in 8 games as a starter.
Pittsburgh Steelers- Bubby Brister- (1988-1992)
The early 90s were inconsistent for Brister. He failed to have a passer rating above 8 for any season and threw 51 TDs to 51 INTs.
San Diego Chargers- Ryan Leaf (1998-2000)
We all know the name Ryan Leaf for all the wrong reasons. He was known as possibly the biggest draft bust in NFL history.
San Francisco 49ers- Jim Druckenmiller (1997-1998)
The 49ers enjoyed a ton of success in the 90s with QBs. Except one with Druckenmiller. He played in 6 total games and had just 1 TD to 4 INTs.
Seattle Seahawks- Rick Mirer (1993-1996)
The Seahawks put their future in Rick Mirer and made him the 2nd overall pick in the 1993 draft. He had a promising rookie year and then regressed. In four seasons with the Seahawks he went 20-31 and threw 56 INTs to 41 TDs.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Vinny Testaverde (1987-1992)
Testaverde revitalized his career later on. But he was not good as a Buccaneer. He was the number 1 overall pick and went 24-48 as a starter and threw 112 interceptions.
Washington Redskins - Heath Shuler (1994-1996)
Washington took Shuler with the third overall pick. But he was a huge bust. he went 4-9 as a starter and threw 33 INTs to just 15 TDs.
