Ben McCollum Just Locked In 6 Years at Iowa, and That Tournament Run Earned Him Every Penny

Iowa coach Ben McCollum is putting pen to paper on a brand new six-year contract after steering the Hawkeyes deeper into March than they've been in nearly four decades. That's the kind of performance that gets you paid, and the school clearly knows it.

First Season, Elite Eight Finish

Here's what makes this story wild: McCollum walked in the door at Iowa in his first season and didn't mess around. The Hawkeyes finished the regular season 24-13 and punched their ticket all the way to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament. That's the deepest run Iowa has made since 1987, and that kind of immediate impact doesn't go unnoticed in the college game.

The tournament especially was vintage March Madness chaos. Iowa pulled off a 73-72 upset over a top-seeded team, the kind of dramatic one-possession victory that reminds everyone why the tournament is appointment viewing. One year, new coach, Elite Eight. That's not luck. That's a guy who knows how to win.

The Business of Winning in College Hoops

McCollum's new deal is exactly what you'd expect in today's college basketball landscape. A six-year commitment from Iowa signals they're not messing around with their basketball future. They've got their guy, they believe in what he's building, and they're locking him in before the rest of the country comes calling.

In a sport where one deep tournament run can change everything about a program's trajectory, McCollum proved he's got the chops to deliver results immediately. Iowa fans should be locked in for what comes next. This is the kind of early success that builds momentum.
