The 4th-Fastest Lane Agility Time From Morez Johnson Jr. Is What Every NBA Team Needs Right Now

Alright, listen up, because a serious talent just officially declared for the NBA Draft, and if you haven't been paying attention, you need to start! Morez Johnson Jr., the absolute beast who dominated for the Michigan Wolverines, is keeping his name in the draft. His agents at CAA Basketball dropped the news Tuesday, and trust me, this isn't just another name on the list. Johnson Jr. is coming to the league, and he's bringing a championship pedigree with him.

The Rise of a Champion

This dude's journey is straight out of a movie. After a freshman season at Illinois where he only started eight games, Johnson Jr. transferred to Michigan and absolutely exploded under Coach Dusty May. He wasn't just a role player, he was a critical contributor, starting all 40 games for a Wolverines squad that went on to win the national championship! Can you believe that? From eight starts to a national title MVP. He credits May and his staff big time, saying, "From day one, Coach May told us he was going to help develop us on and off the court, and the goal was to win a national championship. We accomplished that mission." His sophomore season stats are just ridiculous: 13.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, shooting a ridiculous 62.3% from the field. He even earned All-Big Ten honors and a spot on the league's All-Defensive Team. This guy was a force on both ends of the court! The Wolverines were a legit powerhouse, finishing 37-3, winning 29 games by double figures, and crushing 16 games by 20 or more points. They even set a Big Ten record with a 19-1 league record, winning the regular-season title by four games. Talk about being a winner!

NBA-Ready Skills and the Numbers to Prove It

But it's not just the college resume that has NBA scouts buzzing, it's what he showed at the draft combine in Chicago. Johnson Jr. emerged as a first-round riser, measuring 6-foot-9 without shoes, with a crazy plus-6.25-inch wingspan. And get this: he clocked the fourth-fastest lane agility time! That kind of size and athleticism, paired with his defensive versatility and a developing face-up game, makes him a nightmare matchup. He set a career high with 24 points in his Michigan debut and tallied nine double-doubles throughout the season, including a clutch 12 points and 10 rebounds in the national title game win over UConn. ESPN's post-lottery mock draft even has him going No. 17 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, potentially joining Michigan teammates Aday Mara and Yaxel Lendeborg in the top 20. That Wolverines frontcourt trio was the real deal, and Johnson Jr. was a huge part of it. So, what's next for this champion? Johnson Jr. summed it up perfectly: "I am excited to chase my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA. Every stop along my journey has prepared me for this moment, and I'm extremely grateful." He's forever grateful to Michigan too, saying, "Michigan is everything. You want to find a community that embraces you, helps you grow and reach your ultimate goal. Michigan offers it all. From the best fans in the nation to the alumni base." This kid is ready for the big show, and frankly, the NBA better be ready for him. Draft night is going to be electric!
