The NFL's Global Blitz Is On, And Japan Is Only The First Stop!
Alright, Seattle, listen up! You thought the NFL was just a national league? Think again! Our beloved game is going full global, and the league just dropped some serious news that's gonna have you hyped. Owners just approved a massive expansion of the NFL International Series, cranking up the number of overseas games, and get this: Japan and even Africa are officially on the league's radar!
More Games, More Countries, More Football!
We've already seen the league's international footprint growing, right? The 2025 schedule is already setting a record with nine international games. But that's not enough for Roger Goodell and crew! The owners just gave the green light this Tuesday to bump that up to ten international games every single year starting in 2027. And don't forget the Jaguars. They're still doing their own thing, negotiating their London games independently as a home team, which means we could actually see as many as eleven international games next season!

But Peter O'Reilly, the NFL's executive vice president, spilled the beans on the 'Up & Adams' show, saying they've "identified markets beyond these that we think could be great." He specifically called out Japan, noting it's a "very different but is a unique culture." And let's be real, Australia, he said, is "obviously a sports-crazed market." You gotta love it! More football for everyone, right?
The Game Goes Beyond Borders!
And if Asia isn't enough to get you buzzing, O'Reilly also hinted that the league could one day head to Africa! Now, he did say nothing's "imminent" for a game there "in the near term," but the groundwork is clearly being laid. He mentioned that Nigeria has been killing it in flag football, with both their men's and women's teams qualifying for the world championships! Plus, the Miami Dolphins recently drafting Seydou Traore from the NFL's UK academy was a "full-circle moment" that shows just how serious the league is about growing the game globally.
So, what does this all mean for us? More opportunities to see the Seahawks, or any NFL team, on a truly global stage down the line. The NFL isn't just about Lumen Field anymore, it's about connecting fans worldwide. Get ready, 12s, because our game is about to take over the planet!
