Toronto's Historic First Win Comes at Seattle's Expense, 86-73

The Seattle Storm ran into a buzzsaw in Toronto on Tuesday night, falling 86-73 to the Tempo in what turned out to be one of the most meaningful losses of the young season. Not for Seattle, obviously, but for a franchise that just secured its first win in franchise history on the back of a scorching performance from one of its stars.

Marina Marbey Puts on a Clinic

Marina Marbey led all scorers with 26 points and knocked down 6 three-pointers to carry the Tempo to their franchise-defining victory. The visiting Storm simply couldn't contain her, and by the time it was over, Seattle was looking at a 13-point defeat that felt closer to a rout in the second half. Marbey's performance wasn't just efficient, it was the kind of shooting night that changes a team's momentum early in a season.

Storm Stumbles Early

For Seattle, this was a rough outing. The Storm scored just 73 points on the road and never really got into a rhythm against Toronto's defense. There's not much to celebrate here for the green and blue faithful, and it's the kind of loss that stings more when it hands the other team their first franchise W.

What's Next

The Storm head back to the Pacific Northwest licking their wounds after letting Toronto's inaugural season get off to a flying start. Seattle will need to regroup quickly and get back to winning form as the season settles in. There's plenty of basketball left, but losses like this one, especially early, have a way of sticking with you.
