Tyrod Taylor Lands in Green Bay and Jordan Love's Backup Spot Just Got Real

The Packers wasted no time fixing their quarterback depth chart. On Monday, Green Bay signed 36-year-old veteran Tyrod Taylor to back up Jordan Love, and the signing basically writes itself: Taylor is the guy who'll keep the seat warm if Love ever goes down.

This move came a little over a week after the draft wrapped without Green Bay addressing the position. Taylor steps in as the heavy favorite for the backup gig, filling the void left by Malik Willis, who spent the last two seasons behind Love before heading to Miami in free agency. Before Taylor signed, the Packers only had Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord on the roster at quarterback. Ridder got cut Monday to make room for Taylor.

Why Taylor Makes Sense for Green Bay

Look, Taylor has been around. He's a guy who's started games in this league, knows how to operate in a backup role, and won't panic if Love needs a breather or gets hurt. At 36 years old, he's not here to steal the job. He's here to know the playbook, stay sharp, and be ready if his number gets called. For a team that just watched Love enter his fourth season as a starter, having a steady veteran hand in the room matters more than people realize.

Green Bay's QB Room Is Set

With Taylor signed and Ridder released, the Packers now have their quarterback situation squared away for the upcoming season. Love is the undisputed starter, Taylor is the experienced backup, and Kyle McCord rounds out the depth chart. It's a cleaner, more decisive setup than rolling into the season with questions hanging over the position group.

The Packers had their chance to grab a quarterback prospect during the draft but decided to go another direction. Now they're betting on Taylor's veteran savvy to provide solid depth behind Love as the season gets rolling.
