Undrafted Receiver Tyrone Broden Jr. Making Wild Pivot to Cornerback for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks just did something weird and kind of brilliant. Tyrone Broden Jr., a former Arkansas wide receiver who signed with Seattle as an undrafted free agent last year, is officially switching to cornerback. The team announced the move on Thursday, and Broden will wear No. 31 going forward.

A Receiver Who Just Couldn't Crack It

Look, Broden spent all of 2025 on the practice squad and got bumped to a reserve/futures contract after Seattle won the Super Bowl. The reality is brutal: as a receiver, he's got almost zero chance of making the active roster given the talent ahead of him. So why not experiment? The Seahawks clearly figure if he's not going to stick on offense, let's see what happens if we flip him to defense.

The Physical Specimen Angle

Here's where it gets interesting. Broden is built like nobody else the Seahawks have had at corner in recent memory. He was measured at just over 6'5 and under 200 pounds, with a reported 4.37 40-yard dash at his Pro Day. Some reports, including from Broden himself, have him listed at 6'7. For comparison, he's taller than Richard Sherman (6'3), Riq Woolen (6'4), and Brandon Browner (6'4).

The catch? Broden has zero prior experience at cornerback, either in college at Arkansas or in high school. This isn't a calculated position switch based on tape. It's a creative gamble.

Will It Last?

Honestly, I'm not expecting this to turn into anything major. But if it carries into training camp, Seattle fans will get to see it in person at Lumen Field, and that alone makes it worth watching. The Seahawks are clearly having some fun with roster possibilities right now, and sometimes the most random experiments turn into something.
