Vegas and Anaheim Are About to Play Their First Playoff Matchup Ever, and Nobody's Talking About It

Here's something wild: the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks have squared off 38 times over the past nine seasons. Thirty-eight. And yet, they've never crossed paths in the Stanley Cup playoffs until now.

That changes in the second round.

A Rivalry That's Been Missing Its Biggest Stage

Think about that for a second. Two division rivals, two franchises that have been tangling regularly for nearly a decade, and this is the first time they're meeting when it actually counts. All those regular season matchups, all that bad blood, all that history, and the playoffs have somehow kept them apart. Until this moment.

The Knights bring the veteran experience you'd expect from an Original Six era expansion team that's been to the Finals. They've been here. They know what it takes. The Ducks? They're the fresh-faced squad looking to prove they belong on this stage.

Experience vs. Youth in Round Two

This is exactly the kind of matchup that playoff hockey lives for. One side has seen it all. The other is hungry to prove themselves. Vegas knows how to navigate the grind of a long postseason run. Anaheim has the energy and the desperation that comes with a team still hungry to prove itself in April and May.

The fact that these two teams have never met in the playoffs before this moment makes it feel fresh somehow, despite all those regular season battles. Everything changes when the games matter more.

What's Next

The second round starts now. This is what both franchises have been working toward all season. One team goes further. One team goes home. And neither one has ever had to face each other in a format quite like this before. That's going to matter more than most people realize.
