Adalyne Montiel's Fourth Title Broke the Tacoma Dome and Nobody Was Ready

Alright, you guys, if you weren't tuned into the WIAA Mat Classic XXXVII at the Tacoma Dome this Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, then you absolutely MISSED IT. Seriously, the energy in that place? Electric! We just witnessed history go down, with some of the grittiest, most dominant performances this state has seen in a long time. The headline act? Adalyne Montiel from Toppenish. This absolute superstar just snagged her fourth individual title, capping off an unbelievable run that felt, even for her, "a little different than expected." Different or not, it was PURE GOLD, and her Toppenish girls' program sealed their fifth straight team championship. Fifth! Can you believe it?!

Toppenish's Dynasty is Real, Y'all

Let's just be honest, Toppenish is building something special, an empire right here in our backyard. Adalyne Montiel's four-peat is the kind of legendary stuff you talk about for years. The sheer focus, the dedication, to win four consecutive individual titles? That's not just talent, that's pure grit. And it clearly fuels the entire team. Toppenish's girls are just on another level, proving their dominance year after year, earning that fifth straight team championship. That's a dynasty, folks, plain and simple. But don't sleep on the Toppenish boys either! Justyce Zuniga also walked away with his fourth individual title, wrapping up what has been a truly dominant career built on an insane, fast pace. They said he finally slowed down in the final minute of his last match, but honestly, who could match him for four years straight? The Toppenish boys battled hard for a second-place 2A finish, showing that their program is strong top-to-bottom.

Local Talent Shines Across the State

The Mat Classic wasn't just about Toppenish, though, as incredible as they were. This whole state brought the heat! The Wapato boys leaned on their depth and *defended* their 1A team title, once again reigning supreme inside those circles. Their rivals, Zillah, were runner-up *again*, but still put three individual winners on the podium. Remember that epic dual meet back on Jan. 29, 2026, when Wapato barely edged out Zillah 39-36? These two programs know how to bring the drama! Then you had the Granger boys, who grabbed a pair of individual titles and narrowly clinched the 2B team championship. And the Granger girls? They fought for a runner-up 1A/2B finish, powered by some unbelievable individual stories. Gabrielle Berger went out in absolute style with a repeat title, proving she's a force. Sonia Mendoza finally got the title she's been chasing for *four years*, talk about perseverance! And get this, freshman Vanessa Torres launched her bid for that super rare prize, showing everyone she's one to watch for the future. What a day for Washington State wrestling! These high schoolers are putting on clinics and pushing the limits. It just shows you the caliber of talent we have brewing here. What's next? You know these kids are already thinking about next season, what they need to do to get back to the Tacoma Dome and etch their names into history. We're already hyped to see who steps up and who builds on these incredible performances next year. You gotta love seeing this level of passion and skill!
