Adrian Rodriguez Dropped 7 RBIs and a Cycle on Alabama and the College World Series Is Still Reeling

Woah. Just... woah. If you blinked, you missed maybe the craziest individual performance the College World Series has EVER seen! Adrian Rodriguez for the No. 6 Texas Longhorns didn't just show up to Omaha yesterday, he absolutely detonated, putting together a 5-for-5 masterclass against No. 7 Alabama, crushing them 14-2 and dragging Texas back from the brink of elimination! We're talking a CYCLE, folks, with 7 RBIs and 12 total bases. This kid is on another planet!

Rodriguez's Insane Cycle Kept Texas Alive

Seriously, think about it. A cycle. In an elimination game! This isn't just a good day at the plate, it's the stuff of legends. Rodriguez wasn't just hitting, he was launching, doubling twice, tripling, singling, and then BAM, a homer to complete the cycle. He's only the third player EVER to pull that off in a CWS game, and he did it with a ridiculous seven RBIs and 12 total bases, both tying CWS single-game records. The guy was possessed! He single-handedly kept the Longhorns' season breathing, stomping all over Alabama's No. 7 squad with a 14-2 rout. They sent Alabama starter Zane Adams packing after just 1.2 innings, tagging him for seven earned runs. Alabama never stood a chance once Rodriguez started swinging!

Oklahoma Is Hot, Texas Faces Another Showdown

Meanwhile, over in the other bracket, things were still wild. No. 3 Georgia found themselves in the loser's bracket after a tight 4-3 loss to Oklahoma. The Sooners came out swinging, drawing first blood with a three-run first inning, powered by homers from Jaxon Willits and Brendan Brock. You wanna talk about clutch? Approximately one-quarter of Oklahoma's entire season's home runs have come in this NCAA tournament! And freshman right-hander Xander Mercurious? He was lights out on the mound, throwing a career-high 7.1 innings with a personal-best nine strikeouts, grabbing his first win of the season. Oklahoma is now sitting pretty in the Bracket 2 catbird seat, just waiting to see who wins the Texas vs. Georgia rematch. Speaking of which, Texas extended their season by at least one more day. They're gonna need that same Adrian Rodriguez magic when they face No. 3 Georgia again tonight in another elimination game. It's win or go home, folks! So, what's on tap? Tuesday, June 16, is gonna be another CWS marathon. First up, Troy battles No. 16 West Virginia in an elimination game at 2 p.m. ET. But all eyes will be on that 8 p.m. ET showdown: No. 6 Texas vs. No. 3 Georgia. Can Rodriguez keep the Longhorns' dream alive? Can Georgia bounce back? It's do-or-die baseball, and you know we'll be glued to every pitch. Let's see who steps up in Omaha next!
