Brandon Lockridge Slams Into Wall and Brewers Put Him on IL: A Brutal Reminder That Baseball Doesn't Care

The Milwaukee Brewers just got hit with some bad news on May 9. Brandon Lockridge crashed into the wall during a game and ended up on the injured list. One moment of bad luck, one wall, and suddenly your roster is thinner heading into what's looking like a tight stretch of games.

When the Wall Wins

This is the stuff that keeps baseball front offices up at night. You can't predict it, you can't prevent it, and you can't really blame anyone when a player runs full speed into an outfield wall doing exactly what they're supposed to do. Lockridge was out there making a play and collided with the barrier hard enough that the team decided he needed to come off the active roster.

The Brewers are sitting at 20-16 on the season, so they're in the hunt. Losing a player to what amounts to an accident stings in a different way than losing someone to performance or injury management. It just happens, and you have to deal with it.

What's Next for Milwaukee

With Lockridge heading to the IL, the Brewers are going to have to shuffle their lineup and figure out who fills that gap. That's the reality when you lose depth in May. You're not deep into the season yet, but you're far enough in that every player matters when you're building toward something.

The Brewers will need to adjust on the fly and hope Lockridge recovers quickly. For now, they'll move forward without him and try to keep that record ticking in the right direction.
