Byron Buxton's Power Surge Is About to Test Miami, and the Twins Are Rolling

The Minnesota Twins have one of the hottest hitters in baseball right now, and Byron Buxton is out to keep the heat rolling against the Marlins. Buxton is in the middle of a legit power surge, and Miami is about to find out firsthand why the Twins are making noise early in the season.

Buxton's Bat Is Talking

When a guy gets hot at the plate, you notice. Buxton is doing exactly that, and the Twins are riding his momentum. This isn't just a couple of good games either. The man is on a power surge, which means the Marlins pitching staff has their hands full. In early May baseball, when you have a guy swinging it like this, you lean on him, and Minnesota absolutely is.

Miami's Pitching in Trouble

Here's the thing that makes this matchup tough for the Marlins right now: they just got hit with injury news. Highly-regarded left-hander Robby Snelling was placed on the 15-day injured list with a UCL sprain in his pitching elbow. The severity of that injury hasn't been fully determined yet, but losing a promising young arm in May isn't ideal when you're trying to keep up in the standings. That's a real blow to Miami's rotation depth.

What's at Stake

The Twins are looking to keep this thing going. When you've got a player like Buxton in a power surge, you ride it. The Marlins need to find a way to slow him down, but without their full arsenal of arms on the mound, that's easier said than done. This is baseball in May when teams are still figuring out who they are, and Minnesota is clearly figuring it out with Buxton leading the charge.
