Fans witnessed legendary scoring duels, particularly his memorable matchups against Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets in the 2020 Orlando bubble. While Mitchell routinely delivered highlight-reel performances and broke franchise playoff scoring records, the Jazz consistently fell short, never advancing past the Western Conference Semifinals. Their runs were often ended by powerhouse teams like the Houston Rockets or the Los Angeles Clippers, leaving Jazz fans longing for more.
Following his blockbuster trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the hope was that a new environment and a talented young core would provide the necessary pieces for a deeper playoff run. Mitchell immediately made an impact, leading the Cavaliers to the playoffs in his first season (2022-23) and delivering a historic 71-point performance during the regular season. However, their playoff journey ended in the first round against the New York Knicks. In 2023-24, he once again led the Cavs deep into the postseason, reaching the Eastern Conference Semifinals, but ultimately succumbing to the Boston Celtics. While the championship ring remains elusive, Mitchell's determination and ability to elevate his teams are unquestionable.
