From Spain to Radford: Mathieu Grujicic Made a Move That Has College Hoops Buzzing

Alright, college basketball fanatics, buckle up because the saga of Mathieu Grujicic has finally found its next chapter! After a wild, blink-and-you-missed-it single season with the Ohio State Buckeyes, the man has made his decision, committing to Radford University. Yeah, you heard that right, Radford! The 6-foot-7 guard from Europe is officially ready for a fresh start, and honestly, who can blame him after how things played out in Columbus? This move seals the deal, making him the fifth and final guy from their transfer portal parade to find a new spot this offseason. It feels like a massive sigh of relief for everyone involved, especially Grujicic himself. What a whirlwind for the young player, right?

A Buckeye Blip and a New Horizon

Let's rewind a second here and break down this journey. Grujicic was a late addition to Jake Diebler's 2025 recruiting class, rocking up to Ohio State back in June after he'd already been out there playing professionally in Spain. Think about that trajectory! From the European pro circuit straight into a major college program, and now, he's heading to the Big South. But here's the kicker: the guy just never really got going in scarlet and gray. We're talking a grand total of 33 minutes on the court for the entire season. Thirty-three minutes! It's almost unbelievable. His stat line for the year paints a clear picture: a tough one of eight from the field, and three of seven from the free-throw line. Brutal. You just know he was absolutely itching for more, yearning for a place where he could actually get some consistent burn and contribute immediately. It became crystal clear that Ohio State wasn't going to be that spot in the foreseeable future, and sometimes, you just gotta know when it's time to find a new locker room, no matter how tough that decision is.

The Big South Beckons for Instant Impact

So, what's he walking into at Radford? The Highlanders play in the Big South Conference, a solid league where Grujicic could truly shine. They finished last season with a 16-16 record, sitting right at .500, and while they haven't been to the NCAA Tournament since 2018, it's a program hungry for new talent and immediate impact. This feels like the perfect environment for a player like Grujicic to step in and potentially be a key piece, a genuine game-changer. You always hope these young guys can stick it out, you wanna see what they can become, but when it's just not a fit, it's just not a fit. Grujicic joins a whole crew of guys who also bailed from Columbus looking for greener pastures this offseason: Taison Chatman went to Utah, Gabe Cupps is heading to Illinois-Chicago, Devin Royal committed to Villanova, and Colin White is off to Akron. It's been a mass exodus, plain and simple, and Grujicic's move officially closes out that chapter for Ohio State and these transfers. Now, the real question that everyone's asking: what can Mathieu Grujicic do in the Big South? Can he find that professional swagger he brought from Spain and translate it to consistent, meaningful college minutes? This is his ultimate shot to prove himself, to finally get on the floor and show everyone what he's truly capable of. We're all gonna be watching closely to see if this move unlocks the player we know he can be. Here's to hoping for big things at Radford, and for Grujicic to light it up!
