Wait Until You Hear What Happened: Gordie Howe's House: A Look Inside His Mansion

Gordie Howe, forever "Mr. Hockey," left an indelible mark on the sport, captivating fans for decades with his unparalleled skill and toughness. While his legendary career was synonymous with the Detroit Red Wings and the city of Detroit, many might wonder about the personal sanctuary of such an iconic figure – where did Gordie Howe hang his skates after leaving the ice? Like many athletes, Howe's later life saw shifts in residence, prioritizing family and comfort over grand opulence.

For a significant portion of his post-playing years and particularly in his final decade, Gordie Howe called Sylvania, Ohio, home. Following the passing of his beloved wife Colleen in 2007, Howe moved to Sylvania to live with his son, Murray. This move brought him closer to other family members, including sons Mark and Marty, who also resided in the Toledo area. The home itself was described not as a sprawling estate, but as a comfortable, accessible residence, perfectly suited for an aging legend. It provided a quiet, familiar environment where Howe could enjoy his golden years surrounded by the people he loved most.

A Home Rooted in Family

The choice of a more modest, family-centric home in Sylvania speaks volumes about Gordie Howe's character. Despite his larger-than-life status, he remained grounded, valuing his loved ones above all else. After a severe stroke in 2014, Howe temporarily relocated to Lubbock, Texas, to live with Murray, who was a radiologist there, for intensive care and therapy. However, Murray eventually moved back to Sylvania with Gordie, and it was in this Ohio home, close to his sons and the familiar comforts of the Midwest, that "Mr. Hockey" passed away in 2016. His final residences were a testament to a man who, despite his immense fame, always put family first, choosing warmth and accessibility over showmanship.
