Jalen Brunson Just Joined a 7-Player Club So Exclusive, You Won't Believe Who's In It

Pinch me, y'all. Seriously, *pinch me*. The New York Knicks, man. THE KNICKS! They actually did it, finally smashing that championship drought that's been hanging over Madison Square Garden since the 1972-73 season. Third NBA title for them, and honestly, the biggest story coming out of it might just be the absolute masterclass put on by a trio of former Villanova Wildcats. Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart? Yeah, those dudes just carved their names into sports history, joining that super elite list of NBA players who’ve snagged both a National Championship in college *and* an NBA Championship. And the cherry on top? Brunson didn’t just win, he absolutely DOMINATED, taking home the Finals MVP trophy. What a performance!

The Nova Brotherhood Just Leveled Up

You gotta wonder what they’re feeding these guys down at Villanova, right? This isn't just some flash in the pan. Brunson, Bridges, and Hart first tasted National Championship glory together way back in 2016. Hart was a seasoned junior, while Brunson and Bridges were just wide-eyed freshmen. Can you even imagine starting your college career by winning it all? Then, just two years later in 2018, Brunson and Bridges weren't content with one, they went back for seconds, snagging *another* National Championship with the Wildcats. Two college rings before they even hit the big league! Now, fast forward to the NBA Finals, and it's full circle. With this championship, these three Wildcat legends officially join a club so exclusive, it's incredible. We're talking only 60 players in the *entire 77-year history* of the NBA who have won both a National Championship and an NBA Finals. Think about that for a second. Sixty! But it gets even crazier for Brunson and Bridges: they're now among just 14 players who have won *two* college titles and an NBA title. That's almost unheard of, right? And get this, their old teammates Collin Gillespie and Donte DiVincenzo, who also won the National Championship with them in 2017-18, have *also* snagged NBA titles with the Nuggets in 2023 and Bucks in 2021, respectively. DiVincenzo, who was on that 2015-16 championship team too, is actually the *first* player from Villanova to grab two National Championships *and* an NBA title. The legacy is real, and it runs deep. Brunson, Bridges, and Hart now make it the third, fourth, and fifth Villanova players to achieve this specific double-champ status. That's a serious pipeline.

Brunson's MVP Just Blew Up the Record Books

But let's be totally honest, Jalen Brunson isn't just a part of some historical trio. He’s out here making his *own* history, and it's jaw-dropping. Winning that Finals MVP trophy? That's not just a nice bonus, it rockets him into a different stratosphere of all-time greats. Brunson is now only the seventh player *all-time* to win a National Championship, an NBA Finals, *and* a Finals MVP. Yeah, you read that right. SEVEN PLAYERS. Names like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Bill Walton, James Worthy, Michael Jordan, and Isiah Thomas. *Those* are the absolute legends he's sharing a list with now. Let that sink in. Think about the sheer dedication and talent required for that. To perform at the absolute highest level in college, leading your team to a championship, then do it again in the pros, and be named the indisputable best player on the court in the most high-stakes series? That's not just talent, that's pure, unadulterated grit, an insane work ethic, and a clutch factor that just doesn’t quit. We’ve seen countless incredible players come through this league, but to hit that specific, ultra-rare trifecta? It’s truly special, a testament to an unbelievable career arc. You gotta wonder, who's gonna be the next phenom to etch their name onto a list this incredibly exclusive? The history books are wide open for more, but this one will stand for a long, long time.
