Wait Until You Hear What Happened: Josh Allen's College Years: From [College] to the NFL

Before he was a Pro Bowl quarterback lighting up scoreboards for the Buffalo Bills, Josh Allen’s path to the NFL was anything but conventional. Unlike many top prospects, Allen wasn't a highly recruited star out of high school. His journey began off the beaten path, far from the bright lights of Power Five conferences, illustrating a remarkable story of perseverance and potential.

Allen’s football career initially saw him at Reedley College, a junior college in California. Despite a standout season there, throwing for over 2,000 yards and 26 touchdowns, he still struggled to attract significant Division I offers. It was a testament to his raw talent, but also a reflection of how overlooked he was by many major programs. Fortunately, the University of Wyoming saw something special in the young quarterback.

From JC to Cowboy Star

It was at the University of Wyoming where Allen truly began to blossom. After redshirting in 2015, he took the reins as the starting quarterback in 2016 and 2017. Under the guidance of head coach Craig Bohl, Allen showcased the incredible arm strength and athleticism that would later make him a top NFL draft pick. While his completion percentage wasn't always elite, he consistently displayed flashes of brilliance, making jaw-dropping throws and extending plays with his legs. He led the Cowboys to an 8-6 record and a Poinsettia Bowl appearance in 2016, and then to an 8-5 record and a Famous Idaho Potato Bowl victory in 2017, earning him MVP honors in the latter.

His time in Laramie was crucial for his development, honing his skills against Division I competition and proving he could lead a team. Scouts saw the immense upside in his physical tools, even if his mechanics needed refinement. This unique college trajectory, from overlooked junior college prospect to a celebrated Wyoming Cowboy, laid the foundation for the superstar quarterback we see today in the NFL.
