Lucas Herbert Shot 64 and Ripper GC Is Running Away at LIV Golf Virginia

Lucas Herbert just put the entire field on notice. The Australian fired an 8-under 64 on Thursday to stake Ripper GC to the lead at the Maaden LIV Golf Virginia event, and if you thought the competition was going to catch up quick, think again. Herbert is playing lights out, but here's the thing: he's got plenty of hungry names breathing down his neck.

Herbert's Hot Hand Has Ripper GC Out Front

One round down, three to go, and Herbert is already the man to beat. His 8-under round was the kind of performance that makes you sit up and pay attention, especially this early in a 54-hole event. Ripper GC is on top of the team competition standings, and they've got momentum rolling into Friday's second round at Trump National Golf Club in Washington D.C.

The Field Is Tight Behind Him

Here's where it gets interesting: four players are tied for second place at 6-under par, which means this tournament is far from decided. The gap between Herbert and the chasing pack is only two strokes. In a team format like LIV, that kind of margin disappears fast. Legion XIII trails by four strokes in the team standings, so while Herbert has put Ripper GC in the driver's seat, the field is absolutely stacked and plenty of firepower is still in play.

What's Ahead

Round 2 kicks off and Herbert will be looking to keep his putter hot and extend that lead. With big names lurking at 6-under and more talent waiting to make their move, Ripper GC can't afford any letdowns. This is exactly the kind of tournament where a scorching first round can evaporate if the golf gets sloppy. Herbert showed why he belongs with the best on Thursday. Now comes the hard part: doing it three more times.
