Mullets, McDonald's, and the Absolute Wildest News Seattle Didn't Ask For

Alright, Seattle On Tap fam, you came here for the real talk, right? The breakdown of Julio Rodriguez’s swing, maybe a peek at how Matty Beniers is lighting up the ice, or a vibe check on Sam Darnold out on the gridiron. Instead, I’m sitting here, staring at the screen, and I gotta tell you, the "news" coming across the wire today is… something else. This ain't your usual sports report, but hey, we bleed green and blue no matter what, and sometimes you just gotta process the absolute chaos.

When You Expect Sports, But Get... Everything Else

Seriously, what even is this news? Billy Ray Cyrus was "completely on the bottom" after his second divorce and battled sepsis and vocal paralysis. We lost Jazz and Blues Icon James Blood Ulmer at 86, and Bill Cody, the longtime voice of the Grand Ole Opry, passed away on June 9 after an extensive hospital stay. Wynonna Judd is dropping her first solo album in a decade. A rocker was "terrified" coming out to his wife. A band had to reschedule a June 7 concert after their frontman was injured in a crash.

The tragedy hit hard too. Actor Anthony Guidera, known from The Godfather Part III, died at 65 after a medical emergency. An actor from Top Gun: Maverick and Jumanji was murdered outside his Los Angeles home. Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were also murdered back in December. Tyler Mane, Sabretooth from X-Men, has breast cancer. An HGTV couple is talking about a devastating hotel fire and a period of bad luck. And in a horrifying turn, former Penn State player Kyle Vasey was hospitalized after an alleged hit-and-run that killed his fiancée and another woman. What a world, man.

Mullets, Meat, and a Shot at $2,000

But wait, there's more! There’s a Mullet Championship celebrating outrageous hairstyles. Hooters is rebranding its "racy work uniforms," and McDonald’s is under fire from customers for high prices despite a new value menu. Texas BBQ joints are closing due to sky-high beef prices, with owners calling it "as bad as it gets." A Pizza Hut franchisee is converting 80 restaurants to "Pizza Hut Classic," promising nostalgia. And get this: 55 people were arrested after a brawl at Hersheypark’s opening day. If you need some good news amidst all this, June is National Bathroom Reading Month, and you could win $2,000 for something you probably do every day. Yeah, you read that right: free cash for reading on the toilet.

So, there it is, Seattle. The absolute bonkers news dump we’re dealing with. I’d much rather be dissecting Brandon Montour's defensive plays or debating if Rashid Shaheed can become Sam Darnold's top target. Instead, we’re here, wading through celebrity woes and fast-food drama. Let’s just hope the next time we tap in, it’s all about Joey Daccord shutting down an opponent, or Cristian Roldan making the USMNT proud, or Cal Raleigh launching a no-doubter. Until then, keep that Seattle spirit strong, and maybe don't get arrested at a theme park. Go Hawks, Go M’s, Go Kraken, Go Sounders!
