OG Anunoby's Hamstring Is Already a Problem and the Knicks Can't Afford It Right Now

The Knicks are in the middle of their Eastern Conference Semifinal push, and the last thing they need is injury trouble on the wing. But that's exactly what they're dealing with: OG Anunoby is day-to-day with a right hamstring strain, according to sources, and this comes at a moment when the team can't absorb another hit to the lineup.

Timing Could Not Be Worse

New York just locked up a 2-0 series lead over the 76ers with a 108-102 win, clamping down defensively in the fourth quarter to close out Game 2. That's the kind of momentum you need heading into Game 3. Anunoby is a key piece of that defensive scheme, and having him limited or unavailable isn't an option the Knicks want to consider right now.

What's Next for the Knicks

The good news: Anunoby is listed as day-to-day, which means there's a real chance he plays through this. The bad news: hamstring strains are tricky, and if this flares up during a playoff series, it only gets worse. The Knicks are going to monitor his status closely heading into Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Every game matters at this stage, and every player matters even more.

Watch this space for updates as the series continues. The Knicks' defense has been stellar, and keeping that unit intact is the only way they're making a deeper run.
