Real Salt Lake's Skid Just Got Worse: Dallas Puts Up 3 Goals and RSL Has Nothing

Real Salt Lake walked into FC Dallas on Saturday night already limping. Three losses in the last four matches? Yeah, that's the kind of form that makes you sweat. And Dallas made sure it got worse, hanging a 3-1 loss on the Claret-and-Cobalt in Frisco. By halftime, RSL was already down 2-0. Game over.

The Damage

Real Salt Lake came into the match sitting 6-4-1 with 19 points, good for 6th in the West. Dallas was right there at 5-3-4 with the same 19 points, one spot behind in 7th. But on the field Saturday, there was a clear gap between the two teams. RSL couldn't slow down what Dallas was throwing at them early, and a two-goal hole at the break is nearly impossible to climb in this league.

Diego Luna scored late in the match, pulling one back in the 85th minute, but it was too little and way too late. One goal doesn't erase getting torched in the first half and extending a stretch of results that's becoming hard to defend.

What's Next

RSL has to figure out how to stop the bleeding fast. You can't lose three out of four and expect to compete for anything meaningful. The talent is there. Luna has been one of the league's best players this season. But Saturday night showed what happens when a team plays uninspired soccer in the first 45 minutes: you go home with an L and nothing to show for it.
