Robby Snelling, Miami's No. 2 Prospect, Getting His Shot in the Majors

The Miami Marlins are calling up Robby Snelling, their No. 2 prospect, for his MLB debut. It's the kind of move that gets prospect hounds excited and reminds us that the farm system pipeline is constantly feeding fresh talent into the big leagues.

Who Is Snelling and Why Should You Care?

Look, Robby Snelling doesn't have a household name yet, but the Marlins clearly believe he's ready. Being your organization's No. 2 prospect means you've been grinding through the minor leagues and the front office has seen something special. The fact that Miami is pulling the trigger on his debut tells you they think he can contribute at the big league level right now, not someday down the road.

What This Means for the Fish

Miami sits at 17-21 on the season, so they're in the middle of the pack in their division. Bringing up a prospect like Snelling is a statement: the Marlins believe they can compete and they're betting that fresh young talent gives them a shot. It's the kind of move that either looks brilliant in hindsight or becomes a learning moment. Either way, you've got a new face in a Miami uniform and a young guy trying to prove he belongs.

Snelling gets his moment in the majors. Now we'll see if he's ready for it.
