Shea Langeliers Is Back and Austin Wynns Is Out: A's Make Their Catcher Call
The Oakland Athletics made a swap at the most important defensive position on Thursday. Shea Langeliers was reinstated from the paternity list, and veteran catcher Austin Wynns was designated for assignment as a result. It's the kind of move that signals exactly where the A's stand with their catching depth right now.
What Happened
Langeliers coming back from paternity leave triggered the corresponding roster move. Wynns, a veteran backstop, drew the short straw and got DFA'd. But here's the thing: the A's aren't left scrambling. They'll hold onto catcher Jonah Heim, who was acquired from the Atlanta Braves on Monday. So Oakland's got Langeliers and Heim handling the bulk of the catching duties moving forward.

This move tells you the A's believe in their current catching tandem enough to move on from Wynns. Langeliers getting the nod back means he's their guy, and pairing him with Heim gives Oakland some solid depth behind the plate. The team is taking shape, one roster decision at a time.
