Puyallup, WA is bracing for an electrifying showdown as the Shorewood Stormrays and Mercer Island Islanders prepare to battle for the coveted WIAA 3A Boys Soccer State Championship title. On Friday, May 30, 2026, at 6:30 PM PDT, two of Washington's premier high school soccer programs will clash in a contest promising skill, passion, and heart. This isn't just a game, it's the culmination of months of dedication, grueling practices, and a relentless pursuit of greatness from these young athletes.

Shorewood's Dominant March to the Final

The Shorewood Stormrays have carved a path of undeniable dominance throughout the 2026 season, impressing coaches and fans alike with their potent offense and rock-solid defense. Under the astute leadership of Head Coach Marco Rossi, the Stormrays have consistently outmaneuvered their opponents, showcasing a fluid passing game and relentless attacking mindset. Much of their success can be attributed to the sensational play of senior striker Ethan Chen, whose blistering pace and clinical finishing have netted him a remarkable season goal tally, making him a nightmare for opposing backlines. Chen, a true leader on the field, has been pivotal in every major victory, including a hard-fought district championship game. His ability to create chances out of nothing, combined with the tireless work rate of midfielders like junior Noah Patel, has made Shorewood a formidable force, seemingly unstoppable on their quest for state glory. Their journey to Puyallup has been a testament to their teamwork and unwavering resolve.

Islanders' Resilient Road to Redemption

Across the pitch, the Mercer Island Islanders arrive at the championship game having navigated a challenging schedule with incredible resilience and tactical brilliance. Guided by the strategic mind of Head Coach Sarah Jenkins, the Islanders have cultivated a reputation for their disciplined defensive shape and quick, incisive counter-attacks. Senior captain and midfield maestro Diego Ramirez has been the heartbeat of the Mercer Island squad, dictating play, breaking up opponent attacks, and initiating countless offensive drives. Ramirez's vision and exceptional ball control have consistently unlocked defenses and provided crucial assists throughout the season, solidifying his status as one of the state's top playmakers. After a narrow miss in last year's playoffs, this Islanders team has played with an extra chip on their shoulder, fueled by a collective desire for redemption. Their mental toughness, exemplified by their gritty victories in tight playoff matches, proves they are more than ready for the ultimate challenge.

This WIAA 3A Boys Soccer Championship promises to be a battle of contrasting, yet equally effective, styles. Will Shorewood's free-flowing offense, spearheaded by Ethan Chen, break through Mercer Island's disciplined defense and the midfield mastery of Diego Ramirez? Or will Coach Jenkins' tactical prowess outmaneuver Coach Rossi's high-octane attack? Every tackle, every pass, and every shot will carry immense weight as these two exceptional teams vie for the state crown. This is the moment these young men have worked tirelessly for, and it is sure to be an unforgettable display of Washington State high school soccer at its absolute finest. Both programs have built incredible legacies, and this final will undoubtedly add another thrilling chapter to their storied histories, inspiring future generations of prep athletes in our great state.
