Skylar Thompson to Ravens: Baltimore Is Getting Weird in the QB Room and Nobody Knows Why Yet

The Baltimore Ravens are about to have five quarterbacks on their roster. Yeah, you read that right. Five. According to NFL Network, the Ravens are signing veteran Skylar Thompson to the 90-man roster, and first-year Ravens coach Jesse Minter apparently thinks that's totally normal.

The Crowded QB Room Gets Even More Crowded

Thompson is joining a quarterback room that already includes two-time MVP Lamar Jackson, backup Tyler Huntley, and undrafted rookie free agents Diego Pavia and Joe Fagnano. That's a lot of bodies fighting for snaps behind one of the league's best. Minter apparently told reporters this weekend that the team could carry up to five quarterbacks this offseason, so I guess we're about to find out if that's actually a good idea.

Who Is Skylar Thompson, Anyway?

Thompson, 28, last played in an NFL game with the Miami Dolphins in 2024. Before that, he spent most of last season on injured reserve with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his time with Miami, he appeared in 10 games with three starts, completing 58.7% of his passes for 721 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Not exactly a world-beater, but the Ravens clearly see something worth developing or keeping around as insurance.

Thompson was originally a seventh-round pick by Miami back in 2022, so he's a guy who has been grinding in the league for a few years now. The Ravens are banking on either getting value out of his experience or having enough depth to keep Lamar healthy if something goes wrong.
