Super Bowl LIX Dancer Convicted of Resisting Police After Kendrick Lamar Performance Disruption

A performer who crashed Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime show has been found guilty of resisting an officer. Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, 41, from New Orleans, was convicted after police say he ran across the field during the Feb. 9, 2025, performance at the Caesars Superdome waving a Sudanese flag that read "Sudan and Free Gaza." Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced the guilty verdict Monday.

What Went Down on the Field

Nantambu was one of dozens of dancers decked out in black outfits as part of Kendrick's hip-hop performance. He was authorized to be on the field that day, but here's where things went sideways: he ditched his assigned role. Instead of sticking to the choreography, he held up the flag while standing on the roof of a car that was being used as a prop in the show.

Once he made his statement, Nantambu jumped off the stage and started running. Security and law enforcement personnel chased after him. When they caught up, he refused to cooperate with officers, which led directly to the resisting charge he was just convicted of.

The Verdict

The conviction came down to one thing: resisting an officer. The Louisiana State Police documented exactly what happened, and the evidence was enough to secure the guilty verdict. Nantambu's decision to break from his role and use the Super Bowl platform for a political message during one of the biggest moments in sports ended up costing him legally.

This case is a reminder that even with access to one of the most-watched stages in the world, there are real consequences when performers go rogue and law enforcement gets involved.
