Two UFL OPOY Awards and 641 Receiving Yards: What Hakeem Butler Is Bringing To Denver That No One Is Ready For

Hold up, Emerald City! You gotta hear this news breaking out of the league, and honestly, it’s got me thinking. While we’re over here buzzing about what Brian Fleury and Mike Macdonald are cooking up for our Seahawks at Lumen Field, the Denver Broncos just made a serious splash. They’re scooping up a receiver who has been absolutely lighting up the United Football League, making everyone there look silly. We're talking about Hakeem Butler, the 30-year-old wideout, who's reportedly set to sign with the Broncos, according to the always-connected NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo. This isn't just some camp body, folks, this dude is a two-time UFL Offensive Player of the Year. Yeah, you read that right. Twice! He's coming back to the NFL, and you know everyone in the AFC West is already doing their homework.

From UFL Superstar To NFL Comeback Kid

So, who exactly is Hakeem Butler, and why should we even care about an AFC team adding a receiver? Well, his story is wild, and it shows you the grit it takes to make it in this league. Butler was a fourth-round draft pick back in 2019, taken by the Arizona Cardinals after tearing it up at Iowa State, earning second-team All-American honors. He had a few stops early in his NFL journey, spending part of his second season in 2020 with the Carolina Panthers. But his time there was short, as the Philadelphia Eagles quickly poached him off the practice squad just eleven days later. He then had stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals, even taking his talents north of the border for a bit in the Canadian Football League with the BC Lions and Edmonton Elks in 2022. But his real breakout? His absolute best work came in the UFL. He didn't just play, he absolutely dominated. Winning that UFL Offensive Player of the Year trophy not once, but twice, in both 2024 and again this year in 2026. This past season, the man was a force, leading the entire league with 641 receiving yards on 29 catches, and crossing the goal line for three touchdowns. That's production you can't ignore, no matter what league it's in.

The Broncos Just Got A 6-Foot-5, 242-Pound Problem

Now, let's talk about what this means. The Broncos are bringing in a bona fide UFL superstar, a guy who clearly rediscovered his game and confidence. When you get a 6-foot-5, 242-pound receiver who can command the league in yards, you're not just adding a warm body to the roster. You're adding a massive red-zone target, a potential matchup nightmare for defensive backs. While we're out here dreaming of Sam Darnold hitting Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Rashid Shaheed, and Cooper Kupp with perfect spirals at Lumen Field, the AFC West just got a new, intriguing weapon they're definitely gonna have to prepare for. This is a smart, calculated move for Denver, snatching up a guy with a serious chip on his shoulder and a resume of recent, high-level success. It's proof that you can take different paths to get back to the NFL, and sometimes, proving yourself in another league is exactly what it takes. You gotta respect that hustle! It's always something in this wild league, isn't it? While this Hakeem Butler signing is an AFC move, you know darn well that scouts, coaches, and general managers across the entire NFL are taking notice. When a player like Butler gets another shot after proving himself big-time, twice, it sends a ripple. This could absolutely be one of those off-season signings that genuinely makes a difference come September when the real games kick off. We'll definitely be keeping an eye on how Butler fits into the Broncos' plans for the upcoming season, and what kind of impact that 6-foot-5 frame makes on the field. Keep those flags flying, 12s! Go Hawks!
