West Central Hit 25-0 Perfection, and a Staggering 77.57% of Readers Called It The Best
Alright, Seattle sports fam, you gotta hear about this! The West Central basketball crew just pulled off something truly legendary, getting voted the Argus Leader’s 2025-26 boys Team of the Year! We're talking about a season so ridiculously perfect, it almost sounds fake: a flawless 25-0 record, culminating in a Class A state championship. And the fans? They aren't just giving them a nod, they're screaming it from the rooftops, handing West Central a mind-blowing 77.57% of the reader vote. That, my friends, is not just a win, it’s an absolute masterclass in domination. When you go undefeated, you earn that kind of respect!
The Trojans' Unstoppable March to Perfection
Seriously, can we just take a moment for 25-0? Think about what it takes to stay perfect, game after game, all season long. No off nights, no slip-ups, just pure, relentless effort. West Central wasn't just good, they were relentless. This program has been building, on the rise recently, but this year? This year they didn't just rise, they soared. Every single possession, every game, they just kept finding a way to win, eventually sealing the deal with that massive Class A state championship. It’s the kind of season every team dreams of, and these Trojans made it a reality, etching their name in history on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Monument in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Twice the Triumph, Twice the Glory
And if going 25-0 wasn't enough to drop your jaw, consider this: West Central didn't just win the state title, they did it by absolutely stifling the defending champions, Sioux Falls Christian, not once, but twice! Yeah, you read that right. They beat them in a regular season showdown, proving they were the real deal, and then when the lights were brightest, in the state title game, they did it again. That takes guts, consistency, and a whole lot of talent. We saw guys like Will Kuhl, rocking number 23, shooting the ball and cheering on the crowd. Boche Knight, number 1, dropping shots. Connor Mebius, number 0, driving hard. Bubba Kono, number 14, battling inside. Hayden Heier, number 3, making moves, and Kolte Garry, number 5, looking for those crucial openings. This wasn't a one-man show, this was a team firing on all cylinders when it mattered most. Taking down the champs, twice? That sends a loud message to everyone.
The People Have Spoken: Overwhelming Victory
Still not convinced this West Central team owned the season? Let’s look at the numbers again, because they are screaming! A staggering 77.57% of the reader vote for Team of the Year. Think about that for a second. That's not just a majority, that’s almost an undisputed coronation. The competition? Not even in the same zip code. Sioux Falls Lincoln's soccer team took second, their track and field team snagged third, and Brandon Valley's baseball team and football squad rounded out the top five. But absolutely none of them came close to the landslide victory West Central secured. It just solidifies what everyone who watched them already knew: this team was heads and shoulders above the rest, and the fans recognized that greatness without hesitation.
What an incredible run for West Central basketball! A perfect season, a state championship, and the overwhelming vote from the fans to back it up. They’ve etched their place in history and set an insane standard for future teams to chase. You gotta respect that kind of unwavering dedication and pure success. What a statement they made!
