First-Round action kicks off *this week*, running from May 19-23. You know what that means: every single pitch, every single swing, every single play matters now. Some of our top teams in Classes 1B and 3A are throwing down on May 19, ready to light it up. The rest of the state, Class 1A, 2A, 2B, and 4A squads, get their state tournament journey started on May 23. Remember how Lake Washington, guided by longtime coach Derek Bingham, snagged that WIAA championship in 2025? Well, a new champion is about to emerge in 2026, and the race begins for real this week!

Seriously, those are gonna be some nail-biters for sure. Over in Class 1B, where the action started May 19, Northwest Christian 8 is facing Wahkiakum 9, and Oroville 5 is clashing with Garfield-Palouse 12. Talk about early intensity! And don't forget Class 2A, also starting May 23, where Bainbridge 1 locks horns with Pullman 16, and we'll see Tumwater 2 against Port Angeles 15. Then there's Class 3A, which also got going on May 19, with Kelso 16 vs. Eastside Catholic 17, and Shorewood 13 vs. Centra. Every single one of these games is a battle, a chance for these teams to show what they've got right out of the gate. This is what high school baseball in Washington is all about!
