1B Softball Showdown: Liberty Christian, Colton Lead Charge for WIAA State Title

The diamond is set, the cleats are ready, and the roar of the crowd is just days away, as the 2026 Washington (WIAA) 1B Softball State Championship is poised to explode into action! From May 21 to May 23, teams from across the state will converge in a thrilling single-elimination bracket, each chasing the ultimate prize: a state championship trophy. This is where dreams are forged, where seasons culminate, and where the hard work of countless hours truly shines. Seattle On Tap is absolutely buzzing with anticipation for the action.

Top Seeds Set for Domination

Leading the charge into the WIAA 1B State Tournament is the formidable **Liberty Christian Patriots**, boasting an incredible 18-2 overall record and a pristine 8-0 in league play. Under the guidance of Head Coach Daniel Perez, the Patriots have displayed consistent excellence, fueled by standout performances. Keep an eye on their ace pitcher, **Maya Rodriguez**, whose dominating presence on the mound has stifled opponents all season long, making Liberty Christian the undisputed top seed. They are a force to be reckoned with, and their eyes are firmly fixed on the title. Hot on their heels are the equally impressive **Colton Wildcats**, who enter the tournament with a stellar 15-1 overall record and a flawless 9-0 mark in their own league. Coach Sarah Miller's Wildcats are an offensive powerhouse, with slugger **Emily Chen** consistently driving in runs and proving to be one of the most feared bats in the 1B classification. Their disciplined play and relentless attack make them a prime contender, ready to challenge anyone in their path. Don't count out the **Almira-Coulee-Hartline Warriors**, sporting a 12-5 record. While perhaps not as dominant as in the past, a program that produced a talent like Beth Okamoto, SBLive's WaFd Bank 2B/1B Senior Girl Athlete of the Year in a previous season, always has a strong foundation. Infielder **Chloe Davis** has been a consistent performer, looking to lead her team deep into the bracket.

First Round Gauntlet and Rising Challengers

The single-elimination format means every pitch, every out, and every run will carry immense weight from the very first game on May 21. The pressure is on, and only the toughest will advance. The initial matchups promise intense competition, with several teams eager to upset the established hierarchy. We’ll see the mighty Colton Wildcats open their campaign against **Muckleshoot Tribal**, a game where Colton’s powerful offense will look to set an early tone. Seventh-seeded **Naselle**, with a solid 9-3 record, will face **Quilcene**, hoping to leverage their consistent play into a deep run. The fifth-seeded **Wilbur-Creston** squad, despite a 0-0 league record, enters with an unblemished slate for the state tournament and takes on **Wahkiakum**. Meanwhile, **Dayton**, an impressive 11-8 overall despite an unrecorded league record, battles **Ocosta**. These opening rounds are not just games, they are statements, setting the stage for who truly belongs among the state's elite.
