Anticipation Builds: Kennewick and Timberline Ready for WIAA 3A State Fastpitch Softball Battle!

The air in Lacey, Washington, is buzzing with anticipation as the 2026 WIAA 3A State Fastpitch Softball Tournament prepares for a monumental clash. On Friday, May 23, 2026, two titans of Washington high school softball, the Kennewick Lions and the Timberline Blazers, will face off in a game poised to be an instant classic. This isn't just another game, it's a culmination of months of dedication, grueling practices, and a burning desire for a state title for these incredible student-athletes who represent the very best of Washington prep sports.

The Mighty Lions Roar Towards Glory

Under the veteran leadership of Head Coach David Miller, the Kennewick Lions have stormed through their season with a potent combination of dominant pitching and timely hitting. Their ace, junior right-hander Maya Rodriguez, has been nearly unhittable, baffling opposing batters with her wicked curveball and pinpoint control. Rodriguez, alongside senior catcher Chloe Kim, forms a formidable battery that has anchored the Lions' defense all year. Kim's game-calling and defensive prowess behind the plate have been instrumental in Kennewick's success, making her a true leader on the field. Offensively, the Lions are sparked by junior shortstop Sophia Chen, whose consistent bat and exceptional glove make her a true five-tool player, often setting the tone at the top of the lineup. Kennewick’s path to the WIAA State Tournament has been paved with resilience, grinding out tough victories and proving their mettle against top-tier competition in their district, showing they're ready for the big stage.

Blazers Bring the Heat and the Bats

Across the diamond, the Timberline Blazers, guided by the strategic mind of Head Coach Sarah Johnson, present a formidable challenge. The Blazers boast an electrifying offense capable of scoring runs in bunches. Senior first baseman Olivia White has been a power surge at the plate, leading her team in home runs and RBIs, providing crucial pop in the heart of their lineup. Her ability to deliver in clutch situations has been a hallmark of Timberline's season. Timberline's own pitching ace, sophomore sensation Ava Peterson, has rapidly developed into a dominant force, keeping hitters off balance with her impressive velocity and movement, often recording double-digit strikeouts. The Blazers' athletic outfield, anchored by junior center fielder Emma Davis, covers immense ground, turning would-be extra-base hits into routine outs with her speed and keen instincts. Davis's leadership from the outfield has been key to Timberline's tight defense. Timberline has consistently shown a knack for clutch performances, particularly in late-game situations, which will be vital in the high-pressure environment of the WIAA 3A State Championship.

This May 23rd showdown promises to be a thrilling display of skill, heart, and the sheer competitive spirit that defines Washington high school sports. Whether it's Maya Rodriguez on the mound for Kennewick challenging hitters or Olivia White stepping up to the plate for Timberline with runners on, every play will count. These young athletes have poured their souls into this season, and their pursuit of a WIAA 3A state title will undoubtedly deliver an unforgettable game for fans. Baseball and softball fans across the state will be watching closely as these programs aim to etch their names into the storied history of Washington prep sports and bring home the coveted state championship trophy.
