Carlos Correa's Season Over: The Ankle That Just Took Down Houston's Shortstop

Houston has a massive problem on their hands. Carlos Correa, the Astros' shortstop, is heading into surgery for his ankle and won't play another game in 2026. That's the season done for one of the team's most important players, and it's a gut punch nobody saw coming this early.

The Surgery That Changes Everything for Houston

Correa's ankle injury forced the Astros to pull the trigger on season-ending surgery. This isn't a "rest it and see how he feels in a few weeks" situation. This is him being shelved for the remainder of 2026. For a team that needs all hands on deck in May, losing your starting shortstop is the kind of blow that can derail an entire campaign before it really gets rolling.

What This Means for the Astros Right Now

The Astros are staring down the barrel of a tough stretch. Correa's been a cornerstone of their lineup, and you don't just replace that kind of production overnight. The front office is going to have to scramble to figure out how to cover his position while the team tries to stay competitive. Every game matters when you're already dealing with injuries, and this one hurts more than most.

Houston's got work to do, and they've got to do it without one of their best players. The window doesn't stay open forever in baseball, and losing Correa for the rest of the year is exactly the kind of setback a team fighting for playoff positioning can't afford.
